  By attaching great importance to the role of moral education, the school is committed to cultivating high-quality and application-oriented talents who will have the strong sense of social responsibility, solid theoretical and practical capability, and creativity. Founded in 1980, the School of Foreign Languages has offered six programs one after another for the students who came from junior colleges, including Applied English, Secretarial English, English Education, Commercial English, Business English and Tourism English. In 2008, the students of English majors intended for bachelor degree of English Language and Literature were enrolled in the school for the first time. At present, there are 1,028 students in the school which offers three undergraduate programs of English Language and Literature, Translation and Interpreting, and Business English.

  The school consists of CPC and Administration Office, Student Affairs Office, and six teaching and research departments, including English Language and Literature Department, Business English Department, Translation and Interpreting Department, Office I of College English Teaching and Research, Office II of College English Teaching and Research, and Experimental Centre for Foreign Languages. Under the jurisdiction of the school are four research centres, namely, Publicity and Translation Research Centre, one of the top think-tanks of Humanities and Social Sciences in Luoyang; the university-level Research Centre of Language Services and Translation Technology; the school-level Applied Linguistics Research Centre; and the British and American Literature Centre.

  The school has a young and passionate team of faculty and staff. Of the 112 faculty and staff, 105 are full-time teachers, twenty-two of which are professors or associate professors, two doctoral degree recipients, two Ph.D candidates, forty-seven double-professionally-titled teachers, one member of the Education Steering Committee for Master's Degree in Translation and Interpreting from the Ministry of Education of China, one "May 1 Labour Medallist" awarded by Luoyang Municipal Government, three "Henan Merit Teacher" winners, two “LIT Top-10 Teachers” recipients, five school-level model teachers, more than ten teachers who have won teachers’ competitions held by Education Department of Henan Province, and more than twenty teachers who have won provincial micro-class competitions. The school pays special attention to the improvement of teachers' application ability (with young teachers in particular), encourages them to go out and take part in teaching skills competitions at all levels, emboldens them to participate in exchange visits domestically and abroad, and motivates them to serve as overseas teachers of Confucius Institute. We actively cooperate with enterprises and employ twelve technical and managerial personnel as members of the steering Committee for improving our expertise in teaching, employment and business start-ups. The "Brain Gain" policy have enriched the source of our faculty, improving expertise for training application-oriented talents.

  With improving our comprehensive strength of disciplines and students' capabilities as the fundamental task, we brave in innovation, and strive to create a harmonious educational environment and a strong academic atmosphere in a pragmatic manner. Centering on the orientation and training objectives of Luoyang Institute of Science and Technology, the school always improves the training of application-oriented talents by taking "serving the local economy and building materials industry" as the purpose and regarding the coordinated development of "knowledge, capability and quality" as the guiding principle. In light of the needs of social and economic development, we give full play to the speciality training of professional talents characterized by "solid foundation, strong ability and great applicability" and has established the mode of "English+Speciality+Skill". To improve students' capability in language service, innovation and entrepreneurship, the professional flexible modules have been set up to meet the diversified needs of the industry for foreign language service talents. We highlight the practice and innovation in hope of cultivating application-oriented foreign language talents with strong foreign language communication and international vision.

  To implement the policy of constructing the model Universities of Applied Sciences, the School of Foreign Languages has favourable experimental conditions for practical teaching. At present, twenty-seven language laboratories of different types are available in our school for such purpose, including twenty-one language laboratories, four self-regulated learning centres for college English, one simultaneous interpretation laboratory, and one collaborative and innovative language laboratory. In cooperation with off-campus enterprises, we have built twenty off-campus bases for practical teaching, which can be conducive to our teaching and scientific research.

  In teaching, we strive to improve our teaching by constantly updating teaching concepts and making full use of advanced teaching philosophies and equipment. At the same time, we attach great importance to improving the theoretical level and strive to promote teaching through scientific research. The school has continuously held academic activities such as "LIT Foreign Language Forum", " LIT Foreign Language Salon" and etc. In recent years, in the fields of "foreign linguistics and applied linguistics", "translatology", "British and American literature", "comparative literature and cross-cultural communication",  we have participated in and undertaken teaching and scientific research projects at all levels, including thirty-two province-level and 293 municipality-level projects; published 435 research papers, of which 109 are from CSSCI indexed journals and Chinese core journals; and published 51 books of great variety covering monographs, translated books, textbooks, supplementary materials and reference books. From them, 124 scientific and teaching research projects have won achievement awards, of which two have won the first prize of Social Science Excellence Award from the Provincial Government of Henan. At the same time, the school has actively offered social service for improving the local economy by successively providing translation and interpreting for "Sino-British Strategic Cooperation" under the framework of "Belt and Road Initiative", "2018 Luoyang World Ancient Capital Forum", and "2019 Second China-Central and Eastern European Countries Cultural Heritage Forum" which have received high recognition from all walks of life.

  By attaching great importance to the role of moral education, the school takes healthy growth and quality education as the starting point by nurturing campus culture closely connected to specialities, students and campus life so as to promote students' all-round quality, students' vocational skills and etc. The school actively organize students to take part in major English-related competitions, and the students have successively won the top-grade awards in National English Contest for College Students.

  The school is geared to the needs of the society for training application-oriented and innovative talents. In recent years, the supply of students' employment has fallen short of demand, and the year-end employment rate is above 93%. A large number of outstanding graduates have been admitted to prestigious universities for master's degrees, such as Renmin University of China, Beijing Normal University, Nanjing Normal University, Shanghai  Foreign Studies University, Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, Beijing Language and Culture University. Some students have been admitted to famous foreign universities in theUnited States,BritainandCanadafor master's degrees.
